    Interesting...

Looking forward to what happens with the gestures currently in development. Especially for what it will mean for the iPhone.

I guess I must be old school, I'm a consumer and I think about my wallet before the corporations treasure chest. Apple isn't pumping most of the profits back int the company or paying it out to shareholders. It's sitting in the bank. Or maybe they have something unimaginably huge in mind and I guess that is a possibility.

Hasn't Apple's success helped you think about your wallet? Companies are just now being able to price-match the iPad.

all i have to say is that vmware is a strong company financially with a very good long term vision/proven track record, there's no way parallels will survive. there's no way all the hardware companies will fully cooperate with parallels, i don't see them lasting, you're better off putting money in vmware, they'll give you a good product, they've been doing it longer and better. but i understand how it is with firsts, it's always hard to part with them. ;)

even though i didn't get an invite into the beta program, i'm shocked at how quick they're actually executing. that indian exec at vmware said it would be coming soon at the last wwdc, but this is great.

Given that a number of VmWare's products are essentially free, Parallels will indeed have some significant challenges ahead if the OS X version is likewise free.

What I could use is the ability to use a VM created with VMWare's PC-based products on OS X (allowing me to use development VMs we use for developemnt and testing on my Mac too).

All this messiness is why when I go Intel, I'll be looking at running the one Windows application I need--FrameMaker--under WINE/Crossover. No Windows code is necessary and thus no problem with licenses, legalities or paying Microsoft up to $300.

And since WINE/Crossover isn't Windows, merely letting Windows applications run under OS X, it isn't troubled by the 200,000 Windows viruses, trojans etc. lurking out there.

Lawsuits for violating some badly written EULA aren't your worst nightmare. Windows on your Mac means Windows viruses on your Mac and that's your worst nightmare.

    More on Wine/Crossover at Codeweavers:

A real live AT&T customer care rep! Well that is as official as it gets. Everyone knows that Apple always informs carrier customer care reps of their future plans months in advance...

Oh Wait. I heard from the Cinnabon guy that the US Government called him and officially informed him that Osama Bin Laden is still alive and being held in a secret chamber below Disney World or Disney Land.

^^^ Nice purchase! Boring, for sure... but I definitely need new tires on my '06 Grand Prix. I'm still on the factory Hancocks. But, I plan on getting a new car in the summer, and don't feel like spending the ~$500 to replace them for just a few months of use.

Anyhoo... I have had QUITE the spending spree the last couple days. :p Unfortunately, that means I won't be buying anything else anytime soon.

Mmmm WHO-GAR-TEN. So deelish. I remember when I first read the label, "coriander" scared me (I absolutely abhor the stuff), but whatever they put in there is fine with me as long as it keeps tasting the way it does. I love white beers. My cheap alternative is Rickards white, but you've got to throw lotsa orange peel in there to imitate the light poppiness of Hoegarden.

Sometime soon I've gotta visit the Bier Garden down at the Esplanade and sample, well, everything.

Go there. The Bier Markt was one of my regular stomps when I used to live in Toronto. Actually, I used to live a few minutes away, in a condo right by the St. Lawrence Market.

If they carry Blue Moon, try that one too.

Could someone clarify this for me: Aren't hard drives too slow to make use of Thunderbolt anyway? In a typical USB 2.0 external hard drive, what is the bottleneck in speed: The speed at which the hard drive spins, or the USB 2.0 connection? If it's the USB, then why do people even care about the RPM of a drive? If it's the RPM, then isn't USB 2.0 fast enough to run a hard drive at its native speed?

    http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2173844,00.asp

The bottleneck is (or can be) USB 2.0. Most people who worry about RPM aren't buying hard drives to be placed in external USB drives. Internal drives run on the faster SATA interface. Also, RAID enclosures makes the difference even greater, as you can access data faster.

DUDE! Was that online or in store? I will go buy one today if they have them at my store. Been wanting a tv as well. Do you like it? Is 40" good for gaming and hooking a laptop up to?

My local Walmart supercenter (1 of 3 here in Columbia, MO) was "spring cleaning" for lack of a better word, their TV selection. Almost all of last year's models were discounted by ~20% or so.

However, I can't help but think this TV was a mis-mark, as it rang up at $478 and had to get a manager's approval (both times).

    Certainly worth looking, though.

40" is a great size, imo. Because, it *can* be used just about anywhere in the home, for any particular use. Sure, I'd love bigger; but since I don't even know where I'll be living in six months (I'm about to graduate college), it just doesn't make sense to go bigger.

For ~$300, it's damn nice, and much better than the Insignia and Dynex 32" TVs you typically buy at that price. It lacks a lot of inputs (has just one of each type), and it's only 60hz (even though that doesn't really bother me at all). But I really like it so far... sound is good, picture is great, blacks are deep and rich, and the backlight is nice and even.

I don't know about setting thresholds like that, but I sure would like to be able to download (and re-download) free apps without being prompted every time.

Um, that's what he said. "Never prompt me for password with apps costing below $x" Obviously free falls under that category.

I got my MBP early so now I would love to get a monitor to bump up the resolution. I'm really liking the HPs monitors right now, so I'd like one of those.

    http://www.tech2online.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/HP-2010i-2210m-2310m-and-2710m-LCD-Displays.jpg

I won't get that though as the MBP was my Christmas present. Tempted to buy one of those monitors when I get money from my relatives, so it'll be like a joint present from them...

I actually have a feeling the guy will actually live longer than most of us. Drugs and alcohol have absolutely no effect on this man

Blah don't get an Evo, they suck all the fun out of downhill. Look into an Earthwing Belly Racer or a Comet VooDoo Doll

Suck out all the fun! But I can see where your coming from. I've just always liked low-rider boards, though.

    here is my wish list:

    Why not .223?

My choice for a 22LR would be the GSG-5. And for the AR platform... the DPMS LR-308  hell of a gun.

What's with all the developers that won't do Universal Apps?

If you're supporting both platforms anyway, it's actually far less code, and less testing to just do a Universal App. (I know, I've done two of them so far.)

Whaa? That young? I have a 4 year old MBP that just about copes with aperture.

I've been taking a photography class and I'm getting tired of beachballs and seeing the word "processing".
