Couture vs. Lesnar @ UFC 91

JAN29

The BIGGEST fight in UFC history is going to happen Nov 15th at MGM in Vegas when UFC Heavyweight Champ Randy Couture makes his return to the octagon to take on Brock Lesnar. Couture "retired" from the UFC, then spent the past year in court trying to get out of his contract to fight Fedor, and now has come back after he realized he lost his battle. To be real, Couture wasted everybodys time. His, the UFC's, yours and mine. Here is the audio from the hour long press conference with Dana White, Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar.

Rampage Jackson @ UFC 87 Press Conference

JAN29

The Rampage Jackson saga took a turn for the better this week when he returned to the public eye at the Press Conference for UFC 87 this week and adressed the media about his situation. Looks like things will work out for Jackson, although he still has some legal issues to deal with. You can watch the press conference by clicking HERE.

Dana White at the UFC 87 Press Conference on Rampage...

“Rampage lost the fight to Forrest Griffin. He hung out in Vegas for a week. He was hanging out by the pool and he was fasting. He wasn’t drinking; he wasn’t eating. He was drinking energy drinks,” explained White. “You saw what happened on TV, the problems that he had. They took him in for psychiatric evaluation for over 72 hours. What they came back with was that there was nothing wrong with him mentally; it was physically. He was exhausted. He had severe dehydration. And that caused something called delirium. Apparently they tell us he’s over it now. He is healthy mentally and physically. He will be back in the UFC soon.”

Rampage at the UFC 87 Press Conference on his situation...

"That was the worst mistake I ever made, I got Dana over my back all the time. ‘Did you eat? Did you sleep? Drink your water?’ It’s like I’m two years old, but it’s all good,” he continued. “I love Dana man. He’s the first one to really take care of me and show me love.”

UFC's Quinton "Rampage" Jackson Interview

JAN29

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has been my favorite fighter since I first seen him fight in Pride FC years ago, so it's tough to watch what has happened to him. He got robbed of the belt in his fight with Forrest and it looks like that loss has really effected him. Leading the police on a chase, crashing into cars, and driving on the sidewalk isn't a good look. Something doesn't add up though, there has to be more to it (especially since there was no drugs or alcohol involved). The video that TMZ has of Rampage talking 24 hours before his arrest makes him look real out of it and depressed, but it's mostly because they just edited it together to look that way. I got the whole 10 minute video below and Rampage is acting like Rampage. It's a dope interview where he talks about everything to do with his bullshit loss to Forrest.

Still on the Rampage interview tip, here is my interview with him that is the cover story in the next DXL Magazine which will be on news stands any day now if not already. My theory is the UFC screwed Rampage out of his title just to fuck with me and my cover! Dana you bastard!! To read the whole interview click HERE.

And here is the UNEDITED video of Rampage 24 hours before went on his vehicular rampage and got himself arrested.

UFC's Roger "El Matador" Huerta interview

JAN29

Interview from the Spring 2008 issue of DXL Magazine.

Roger Huerta is a fighter. He has been a fighter his whole life. He may be one of the brightest stars in the UFC, but the road to the top has been like something out of a Hollywood script. To say he has had to over come his share of obstacles is an understatement. Huerta experienced a lifetime of hardships all before he was 13 years old – A mother who abandoned him at a young age, an abusive father who battled with drugs, foster homes, homelessness, running with gangs, and even growing up in El Salvador during a civil war... To quote the UFC slogan, his upbringing was as real as it gets. So it's easy to see where he gets his never say die mentality from. Huerta is a genuine and compassionate person. The chip that should be on his shoulder isn’t there. He encompasses turning a negative into a positive.

Not only is he undefeated in the UFC octagon (6-0), Huerta has also recently improved his overall Mixed Martial Arts record to 20-1-1. His most recent victory over Clay Guida in the main event of this past December's Ultimate Figher Finale was the 2007 Fight of the Year and elevated him directly into the mix of contenders for the UFC's Lightweight Belt. The win – in the classic dramatic come from behind fashion - was by far his toughest test to date and capped off a year where he fought an incredible five times. Throw in his appearance on the cover of Sports illustrated and you're one championship win away from having the perfect ending to that Hollywood movie. With a showdown against Kenny Florian at UFC 87 next on the menu (most likely for a shot at the Lightweight belt), we caught up with Huerta to speak about his rise in the UFC, his Fight of the Year, and what 2008 holds for the fighter who is appropriately called "El Matador'.

Jay Swing: 2007 was a good year for you with going undefeated, landing the cover of Sports Illustrated, and capping it off with the fight of the year. How hard of a road has it been for you to get to this point?

Roger Huerta: Man, the truth is I've been doing MMA since 2003 and as soon as I had my debut fight I wanted to take MMA very seriously and become the best in the world. I just trained a lot and studied. I'm only 24 and I'm going to keep growing and keep working hard and try to become the champ at 155 pound weight class for the UFC.

UFC's Matt "THE TERROR" Serra

JAN29

Matt Serra is the UFC Welterweight Champ. He's also a cool ass dude. We spoke to Matt about a number of topics including...

- his beef with GSP... "I'm disappointed in the guy. I used to like him. I don't think all that was to hype the fight. I believe his sports shrink told him to look at me like the anti-christ..."

- training for Matt Hughes... "I was making sure my guard was off the hook because of Matt Hughes, because you know, in case he tried to take me down and dry hump me."

- the UFC... "I'm like hey man, not for nothing but you just showed the Light Heavyweight champ, the Middleweight Champ and then you show GSP. The last I heard I beat him! You know what I mean!! He beats my ass next time then show it to death but until then why don't you show some respect. It's kinda messed up."

- the movie Talladega Nights... "it will change your life."

Click HERE to read the whole interview where Matt Serra talks about his April 19th rematch with George St. Pierre, airs out GSP and Matt Hughes, and talks about his road to UFC gold.

UFC's George "RUSH" St. Pierre interview

JAN29

interview by Jay Swing (from the January issue of DXL Magazine)

UFC's George St. Pierre has experienced the ups and downs a career in professional sports can bring, but one thing has always remained the same - the former UFC Welterweight Champ is a student of the sport that is Mixed Martial Arts. Going from the ecstasy of winning the belt to the disappointment of being on the losing end of one of the bigger upsets in UFC history can be enough to make any athlete doubt his abilities, but to the man who many believe is the future of MMA that has never been an option. GSP tells it like it is. He wasn't mentally ready to face Hughes the first time they fought. He wasn't the better fighter the night he lost his belt to Matt Serra. But at the same time he will also tell you that he truly feels he is the best fighter in the world. Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Karo Parysian, Sean Sherk, Josh Koscheck, Frank Trigg... it reads like a who's who of elite fighters in Mixed Martial Arts' 170-pound weight class. GSP has beaten them all. "Rush" is 16-2 in his MMA career with his only 2 losses coming in title fights. The first was to his nemesis, then UFC Welterweight Champ Matt Hughes, when he got caught in an arm bar with only 1 second left in what was a very close first round. His second loss came at the hands of The Ultimate Fighter season 4 winner Matt Serra and remains the only loss he has yet to avenge. After that fight and with the let down of losing his title, GSP parted ways with his manager, as well as most of the people around him, and joined the likes of Keith Jardine and Rashad Evans in training with Greg Jackson's camp in New Mexico. With a 6 fight deal secured, a new and more focused approach to training, and his next fight in the octagon a rubber match against Matt Hughes for the interm Welterweight title, George St. Pierre is on the verge of reclaiming what he feels is his - UFC gold. In a candid interview St. Pierre talks about his career, his training, his feud with Matt Hughes, losing the title, and even steroids in MMA.
